LAKR won the toss and opted to field first in this exciting opening encounter. The Knights looked to start off strong by keeping the bowling tight and picking up early wickets. Shadley van Schalkwyk opened proceedings brilliantly for LAKR as he picked up the first wicket in his first over itself. The bowlers aimed to create more pressure and looked to pick up more wickets as they aimed to dominate proceedings. However, a strong partnership between Jake Fraser-Mcgurk and Finn Allen put SFU in the drivers seat as both batters piled up the runs. At one point, the game looked to be slipping away from LAKR as both batters were on course to take SFU to a huge total. However, Skipper Narine knocked over Allen with his mastery and started a fightback which was well supported by the other bowlers. Ali Khan, Andre Russell and Shadley all came to the party as they triggered quite the collapse of SFU and restricted them to 219. LAKR were able to pull things back brilliantly in the late overs and it was all upon the batters now to help chase down the total.

LAKR started the run-chase in aggressive fashion and looked to take on the bowlers in order to put pressure on the opposition. However, in an attempt to take on the bowlers, LAKR lost both their openers. Unmukt Chand and Nitish Kumar partnered up to stabilise the innings. Chand looked in brilliant touch as he kept the scoring rate high and played some excellent strokes. Playing his first game for LAKR, Matthew Tromp also provided a great fight as he stitched another important partnership Chand. Unmukt brought up a well-compiled half century as LAKR looked to hunt down this big total. However, wickets kept falling at one end which made it difficult for the new batters to come in and start hitting straightaway. As the target seemed to move out of reach, skipper Sunil Narine’s lower order blitz brought some hope for LAKR. Despite his fighting innings, LAKR ended up falling short in the run-chase. LAKR will be looking to analyse, discuss and make a strong comeback in their next game. The Knights will be looking to regroup quickly and comeback strong as they take on TSK on the same venue in 24 hours time.
